So, what can we do about it?
GET RID OF THE MACHINES!!!
Election systems are decided on a local & county level. While the Texas Secretary of State’s office is responsible for adopting the laws and statutes for elections, the County Commissioners are responsible for the decisions on how to execute the elections on a county level.
Aren’t machines mandatory?!
No! In 1879, Texas adopted a legal and formal election code that is still lawful today. It is referred to today as; Chapter 65. Hand-count, Paper Ballots are very much legal and lawful in the State of Texas. In fact, Chapter 65 is still the only legal voting system in the state of Texas. Any county can adopt this method, at any time and get rid of the machines! The County Commissioners of Bosque County, Texas can make this decision, again, at any time saving the taxpayers vast amounts of money!
There are initiatives all over the State of Texas, as well as nationally, to abandon the machines and adopt a hand-count paper ballot voting system.
Please visit Tallytexas.org for more information on Chapter 65, and to see a comprehensive system for casting Paper Ballots as well as a system for counting ballots.
